Digicel 5G+
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. What is 5G+?

5G+ is Digicel’s next-generation mobile network built to deliver faster speeds. You’ll enjoy smoother video streaming, lag-free gaming, quicker downloads and better performance in crowded areas.

2. Who can access 5G+?

5G+ is available to both Prepaid and Postpaid Digicel customers once:

●      You have a 5G-compatible handset, and

●      You are within a 5G+ coverage area, and

●      You have an active data plan.

3.What does 5G+ mean for use user experience?

5G+ delivers a smoother, faster mobile experience for customers with higher speeds and lower latency. In busy areas 5G+ maintains a stronger performance even when many people are connected at once.

4. How do I know if my phone supports 5G+?

Look in your phone settings under “Mobile Network”, then  “Network Mode.”
If you see 5G listed (e.g., 5G/4G/3G/2G Auto), your device is compatible.

5. What are examples of 5G-ready handsets?

Here are some popular 5G-capable models available in Barbados:

Samsung: Galaxy A07 5G, A15 5G, A26 5G, S22/S23/S24 Series
Apple: iPhone 12 and newer (iPhone 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17 Series)

However, some devices may not immediately connect to Digicel’s 5G+ network because the phone manufacturer has not yet opened or enabled the specific 5G band in Barbados. This is usually resolved through a future software update from the manufacturer.

Once the manufacturer enables the required band, your device will automatically connect to 5G

6. Will I need a new SIM card for 5G+?

Most customers already have USIMs (4G/5G compatible).
If your SIM is more than 3 years old and you have a 5G compatible phone, visit any Digicel store for a new SIM to ensure the best performance.

7. How do I access 5G+ on my plan?

For Prepaid customers:

Ensure you are on an active data plan (e.g., 3-Day, 7-Day, or 30-Day bundle) If your phone supports 5G, it will automatically connect when you enter a 5G+ area unless it’s hard-set to LTE/3G/2G. If that’s the case, simply go into your settings, enable 5G and you’ll be connected to Digicel’s 5G+ network

For Postpaid customers:

All Postpaid plans are 5G-compatible. You’ll automatically connect once you’re in range and using a 5G-ready device unless it’s hard-set to LTE/3G/2G. If that’s the case, simply go into your settings, enable 5G and you’ll be connected to Digicel’s 5G+ network

8. How does 5G+ affect data usage?

5G+ delivers much faster speeds, which means content loads instantly and in higher quality.
  As a result:

●      Streaming videos in HD or 4K uses more data.

●      Downloading large files or games happens faster but can consume your data quickly.

●      Social media apps may auto-upgrade playback quality over 5G, increasing usage.
Tip: Monitor your data balance regularly via the MyDigicel App to manage usage effectively.

9. Can I control my data usage on 5G+?

Yes!

●      Use Data Saver or Low Data Mode in your phone settings.

●      On the MyDigicel App, set usage alerts to get notified before your plan ends.

●      Download videos or music on Wi-Fi instead of streaming on mobile data.

10. Where is 5G+ available?

5G+ is rolling out in high-traffic and residential areas across Barbados, Airport to Seaport, Warrens, Bridgetown, Warrens, Wildey and surrounding areas, The Pine and surrounding areas, Sargeant's Village, Sheraton Park, Warner's Park, Vauxhall, Kendal Hill, Montrose, Silver Hill, Gall Hill, Elizabeth Park, Coverley, Two Mile Hill, Bartlett's, Weymouth, New Orleans, Green Hill, Upper Collymore Rock,  Maxwell and surrounding areas, Grantley Adams International Airport, Fontabelle and surrounding areas, Pelican Village, Charnocks and surrounding areas, Bridgetown and Harbour

11. Will 5G+ drain my battery faster?

In early use, 5G+ can use slightly more power due to faster data exchange.
However, most modern handsets have adaptive battery optimisation that learns and adjusts automatically.

12. Do I have to pay extra for 5G+?

No. Digicel 5G+ access is included at no additional cost in all eligible Prepaid and Postpaid data plans.

13. How can I check if I’m connected to 5G+?

When your phone connects to the network, you’ll see “5G” or “5G+” in the top corner of your screen near the signal bars.

14. What if I don’t have a 5G phone yet?

No problem! Digicel’s network automatically switches to the best available connection (4G LTE or 3G) so you’ll still enjoy strong, reliable data speeds.
When you’re ready to upgrade, visit any Digicel store to explore affordable 5G-ready handset options.
