Healthy Athletes works to improve access and health care for Special Olympic athletes. This global movement continues to grow with the help of volunteers.
Special Olympics Asia Pacific has invited two volunteers from Special Olympics Samoa to attend training for the Healthy Athlete program. Dr. Tanyamarie Petaia, Healthy Athlete Coordinator and Tai Tauiliili, National Sports Director will be leaving to attend a training seminar in Jakarta, Malaysia on the 4th of October 2009. This will allow Special Olympics Samoa to introduce the Healthy Athletes program into the Special Olympic program in Samoa.

In the process, Special Olympics International has become the largest global public health organisation dedicated to serving people with intellectual disabilities.
All athletes registering to train and compete with Special Olympics Samoa must first complete a full medial assessment. The Healthy Athlete program will continue to ensure the well being and healthy living for all Special Olympic Athletes in Samoa.
