1. What is Digicel “Roam like you’re Home”?

This service allows Digicel BVI Postpaid and Prepaid customers travelling to the Digicel Caribbean, United States, USVI, Puerto Rico and Canada the benefit from calling, texting and data rates as if they were in BVI for a small subscription fee.

2. When did it launch?

October 2013.

3. What changes are being made?

Effective Friday, February 21, 2014, an activation fee of either $15 for 7 days, or $30 for 30 days will be an opt-in charge to prepaid users for roaming in the Caribbean. This is the same activation fee as used for the current USA Roam Like You’re Home plans. Effective Friday, September 26, 2014, Digicel BVI include Canada with the same activation fee as used for USA.

4. Why making these changes?

Due to a number of instances of fraudulent abuse, this measure is being put in place to protect our business from that abuse. We regret having to put such a measure in place but it is important to highlight that the revised Roam Like You’re Home product still sees Digicel customers benefiting from the best roaming rates available in the region.

No, it is important to highlight that the revised Roam Like You’re Home product still sees Digicel customers benefiting from substantial savings and the best roaming rates available in the region.

6. Who is the “Roam like you’re Home” plan for?

The Roam like you’re Home plan is for both Prepaid and Postpaid customers.

7. How does “Roam like you’re Home” work?

  • This plan allows Prepaid and Postpaid customers to opt into a specialized rate plan for a subscription fee while roaming in the Digicel Caribbean, USA, USVI, Puerto Rico and Canada for a limited duration (30 days for Postpaid, 7 days or 30 days for prepaid) and is available only when roaming on AT&T and T-Mobile networks in the USA, USVI, PR; Rogers and Bel &Telus networks in Canada; and Digicel Caribbean island on a Digicel network. This subscription fee allows customers to access low usage rates for voice, texts and data.
  • When Customers have opted in to the plan they will be charged the same rate for voice, text and data usage as they would were they in BVI.
  • These reduced rates will be applicable for the full duration of the plan.
  • Once the plan has expired, rates will revert to standard roaming rates.
  • Local Voice and Data bundles do not apply on this plan. Customers will be charged as per the roam as you home rates below while roaming. 
  • While roaming in the Caribbean these rates apply to following Digicel Networks:

8. How do customers activate the “Roam like you’re Home” plan?

  • Prepaid Customers:
  1. To initiate activation of “Roam like You’re Home”, Prepaid customers are required to dial *153#.
  2. The plan will then need to be confirmed by dialling *153*1#.
  3. Once confirmed, activation of the plan is then completed and indicated by a notification message.Activated customers will be able to benefit from the reduced prices while roaming in the Digicel Caribbean, USA, USVI, Puerto Rico and Canada. 
  4. This plan is for customers with a roaming capable handsets or you can activate via the My Digicel App.

 

  • Postpaid Customers:
  1. Customer who doesn’t currently have roaming applied to their account will be required to pay a $100 roaming deposit as per normal process. 
  2. Postpaid customers are NOT required to pay an additional roaming deposit before activating the Roam like You’re Home plan.
  3. Postpaid customer would have to visit a Digicel store or call #100 to activate the “Roam Like you’re Home” plan.
  4. Activated customers will be able to benefit from the reduced prices while roaming in the Digicel Caribbean, USA, USVI, Puerto Rico and Canada.
  5. This plan is for customers with a roaming capable handsets.

9. What is the cost to activate the Roam Like You’re Home plan?

The cost to register for the service varies for Prepaid and Postpaid costumers as follows: 

  • Prepaid – $15 for 7 days or $30 for 30 day subscription period 
  • Postpaid – $30 for the subscription period (30 Days)
  • This subscription fee gives customer lower usage rates for calls, texts and data.

10. Where in the USA, USVI and Puerto Rico will customers be able to use the Roam Like You’re Home plan?

Once the Roam like You’re Home plan is activated, customers will be able to make calls and browse at regular home rates connected to AT&T and T-Mobile networks.

11. Where in the Canada will customers be able to use the Roam Like You’re Home plan?

Once the Roam like You’re Home plan is activated, customers will be able to make calls and browse at regular home rates connected to Rogers network.

12. Where in the Caribbean will customers be able to use the Roam Like You’re Home plan?

Customers are able to use the Roam Like You’re Home plan once roaming in any Caribbean country that Digicel operates in, list of countries are provided above.

13. If I activated the plan, roamed in the USA and I returned to BVI, and then travelled again to USA, would I need to send the activation code again if my plan has not expired?

The plan will remain active for the entire duration (prepaid 7 or 30 days, Postpaid 30 days), and customers can travel back and forth without the need to re-active the plan once it is still within the activation window i.e. plan has not expired.

14. What will happen if a customer does not have available credit in their main balance?

If a customer has no available credit they will not be able to make calls or browse the internet. Prepaid Customers may purchase credit using anyone of Digicel’s top-up methods. Postpaid customers may make payments on their account using any methods available.

15. Do customers have to activate the Roam like You’re Home plan before they roam?

Postpaid customer must activate before leaving. However prepaid Customers can activate by dialling *153# and follow the instructions.

16. If a customer activates the Roam Like You’re Home plan before roaming will the plan rates apply immediately?

  • No. The plan rates are only applicable when you are actually roaming.
  • Once customer is in BVI they will be charged at their respected rate plans and benefit from local promotions and products until they start to roam.

17. While roaming is a customer able to benefit from local promotions? E.g. My World, Jamaica, etc.?

No. Customers will not be able to benefit from any local products or promotions.

18. If a Prepaid customer has bonus credit on their account can this be used while roaming?

No. Bonus credit is a local promotion and will not be able to be used while roaming.

19. How do customers renew their Roam like You’re Home plan?

There will be no option to renew the Roam like You’re Home Plan. The plans can be reactivated after expiry i.e. 7 days (Prepaid) or 30 Days (Postpaid) after purchase.

20. How do I cancel my Roam like You’re Home plan?

  • The plan cannot be cancelled after activation. During the activation process customers can dial *153*9# to cancel the activation.
  • Once activated the plan will only expire at the end of the subscription period i.e. 7 or 30 day after purchase.

21. Will customers receive a notification when their Roam Like You’re Home plan expires?

  • Yes. Customers will receive one (1) notification 24hrs before their plan expires.
  • Customers will also receive one (1) notification when the plan has expired.
  • Once plan has expired regular roaming rates will be applied.

22. How do customers check the expiry date of Roam like You’re Home plan?

Prepaid customers will be advised of their expiry date when they dial *153*30#.

24. How do customers get to their Voicemail while Roaming?

  • Customers are required to dial 1 284 300 0002 to get to their voicemail.
  • Contacting Voicemail while roaming will attract a cost will be charged the same rate as if calling a Digicel number, if Roam like You’re Home is activated, the customer will be charged at roam like you’re home rates.
