New Pay-As-You-Go DATA customer experience FAQs

1.      What is changing for Pay As You Go data?

  • In the past, once a customer’s handset/device had the mobile data setting switched on, that customer was able to access Pay As You Go data automatically once the data bundle on their plan had depleted or if they did not have an active data plan.
  • From 10th February, 2020, Pay As You Go data will no longer be an automatic service; customers will now have to manually choose to access Pay As You Go data.

2.      As a Prepaid or Postpaid mobile customer, what will be the new experience for me and how does Pay As You Go data affect me?

  • As a Prepaid or Postpaid mobile customer, if your mobile data setting is switched on; on your device/handset:
    • you will no longer be able to access Pay As You data automatically and therefore there will be no charges being deducted from your credit for Pay As You Go data usage
    • you will now be able to manually opt in to or opt out of Pay As You Go data at a rate  $1.90 (VAT exclusive) per MB
    • once you opt in to Pay As You Go data or you are on a data plan, you will also now enjoy FREE access to Wikipedia, Loop*, MyDigicel App and Waze**

*With the free Loop access, please note that video content is not included.

** Once you are opted in to Pay As You Go data and you are registered to Waze via Facebook, you will not have full access to the Waze App; you will only see the route and you will not receive any notifications.

For full free access to Waze on Pay As You Go data, register using your Digicel mobile number.

3.      What happens if I choose to access Pay As You Go Data at $1.90 (VAT exclusive) per MB?

  • If you try to select Pay As You Go data, you will receive a notification, which will allow you to opt in to Pay As You Go data or purchase a data plan.
  • You can dial *729# to Opt In or to Opt Out of using Pay As You Go data.
  • You can dial *323# to purchase an LTE data plan.

4.      Can I use any apps without incurring data charges?

  • As a loyal Digicel prepaid or postpaid mobile customer, once you opt in to Pay As You Go data or you are on a data plan, you will get FREE Access to Wikipedia, Loop*, MyDigicel App and Waze**.

*With the free Loop access, please note that video content is not included.

** Once you are opted in to Pay As You Go data and you are registered to Waze via FaceBook, you will not have full access to the Waze App; you will only see the route and you will not receive any notifications.

  • For full free access to Waze on Pay As You Go data, register using your Digicel mobile number.
  • Any other app usage outside of those listed above will incur data charges.

5.      If I have a prepaid data bundle or postpaid data plan active, will I still have free access to Wikipedia, Loop, MyDigicel App and Waze? 

  • Yes. It will be free for both Digicel Prepaid and Postpaid customers (corporate customers excluded), regardless of whether they are on a data plan or on Pay As You Go data.

Note restrictions stated above for Loop and Waze.

6.      Will the local data rates and free access to Wikipedia, Loop, MyDigicel App and Waze apply whilst roaming?

  • No. Local data rates and free access to Wikipedia, Loop, MyDigicel App and Waze apply only within the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.

7.      Can I dial *729# to activate and deactivate Pay As You Go data?

  • Yes. You will be able to Opt-Out of or Opt-In to Pay As You Go data upon dialling *729#.

8.      If I dialed *729# to deactivate Pay As You Go data, then I purchase a LIMITED data plan, will I have access to my plan?

  • Yes, your plan will become active and the Pay As You Go data will halt. Any data usage will be taken from your LTE data bundle. When your LTE data bundle is depleted, your data speeds will be throttled from LTE speeds to 2G speeds.
  • You can dial *729# to  opt-in to Pay As You Go data  at LTE speeds at a rate of $1.90 (VAT exclusive) per MB or you can dial *323# to purchase an LTE data plan.

9.      Can I still dial *500# to block and unblock data?

  • No. The *500# code is no longer available.
  • You can dial *729# to  opt-in to Pay As You Go data at a rate of $1.90 (VAT exclusive) per MB or you can dial *323# to purchase an LTE data plan.

10.  If I have a 2G/3G Handset will I still receive Pay As You Go data at LTE Speeds?

  • No. Your handset must be LTE compatible and the mobile data setting must be enabled.

11.  If I dial *729# to enable Pay As You Go data, then I activate a plan later, when my plan ends will my Pay As You Go data still be on?

  • No. If you are using Pay As You Go data and then you purchase a data plan, the Pay As You Go data will be halted.
