COLOUR COMES TO SAMAAN PARK WITH DIGICEL FOUNDATION KALEIDODASH
Thursday, October 8 2015: PORT OF SPAIN, TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO – For the third consecutive year, the Digicel Foundation has partnered with the MADHouse team to bring the Digicel Foundation Kaleidodash 5K fun walk and after party.
At the event’s press conference on October 7, Penny Gomez, Digicel Foundation’s CEO, introduced two special guests- Damien Marquez and Renee Massiah, two of the 64 special Olympians who took part in the 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Los Angeles, bringing home gold, silver and bronze in Powerlifting and Bocce, respectively.
“They are the real focus, the reason why we are here today, the reason why we partnered with MADHouse and this should be the spirit of all inclusive events of this type in Trinidad and Tobago”, said Gomez.
Gomez went on to say that, “even though some persons may look or act differently, we are all bound by similarities, hence our tagline ‘Just Like You’.”
The ‘Just Like You’ campaign was launched last year, to promote not only awareness but also inclusion and over the past two years, the Foundation has donated US$85,000 towards special needs organizations through prizes presented to participants.
Amy Inglefield, Kaleidodash Organiser at MADHouse highlighted that “The Digicel Foundation and Kaleidodash have partnered to provide a tool for promoting social inclusion through fun. There are no barriers, or ‘us’ and ‘them’ at Kaleidodash. This event is one where everyone regardless of size, shape, physical or intellectual disability comes together to take on a physical challenge and celebrate their achievement through a universal language- colour.”
She also thanked the Digicel Foundation for believing in their vision since day one, “you believed not only in its potential to become a unique inclusive event in Trinidad and Tobago but also in its potential to open people’s hearts and minds, paving the way for a better society.”
This year the event takes place on Sunday, November 15 at Samaan Park, Chaguaramas.
