DIGICEL FOUNDATION CONNECTS ITS TEAM TO THE CAUSE
Tuesday, October 6 2015: PORT OF SPAIN, TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO – Digicel’s headquarters was transformed as the Digicel Foundation hosted its inaugural Open Day on September 30. Themed, ‘Connecting You to the Cause’ the objective of the event was to expose Digicel team members to the work of the Foundation, its partner organisations and how they benefit persons with special needs.
CEO of the Digicel Foundation, Penny Gomez started the day off with the assistance of several of the Foundation’s directors as they distributed heart shaped stress balls to the staff. This was all done amidst a fanfare of Tassa Drummers from the Lady Hochoy School in Penal.
Team members were treated to breakfast of doubles and a tasty afternoon treat of hot corn soup as well as token puzzles as a reminder of the day. Staffers were quite impressed as they visited the pop-up booths from several of the Foundation partners namely: the Lady Hochoy Gasparillo, the National Centre for Persons with Disabilities, Living Water Community, Goodwill Industries, Nature Seekers, Memisa and the Special Olympics Trinidad and Tobago. Staffers purchased several of the craft and culinary offerings of the partners.
Team members were also able to benefit from three (3) workshops facilitated by the School Leadership Centre of Trinidad and Tobago on Zippy’s Friends, Caribbean Kids & Families Therapy Organisation (CKFTO) on pediatric assessment a direct treatment for children with special needs and the Aquaculture Unit on the Aquaponics Programme
Allison Niles of the Living Water Community remarked “Events like this always allow us to grow awareness and of course opportunities for LWC, and the response was amazing! The Open Day was an overwhelming success and succeeded in its objective of highlighting Digicel Foundation’s commitment to building strong bonds, bright futures and an inclusive society.
