MARINE BIOLOGIST INSPIRES STUDENTS AT DIGICEL IMAX LECTURE SERIES
THURSDAY, 29 OCTOBER 2015: PORT OF SPAIN, TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO – Over 260 5th & 6th form students from: ASJA Girls College, Malick Secondary, Mucurapo East Secondary, Polytechnic Sixth Form School and Woodbrook Secondary experienced the extraordinary when they attended the 13th Digicel IMAX Lecture Series 2015 on October 27.
Guest speaker at the event was Marine Biologist and Lecturer at UWI, St. Augustine Campus, Judith Gobin. Dr. Gobin who has tremendous environmental and ecological experience in the marine and coastal areas of Trinidad and Tobago, had no trouble keeping the youths fully engrossed with her inspiring lecture on the myriad of opportunities available within the marine world.
Another major highlight of the morning for the students was an info booth from the El Socorro Centre of Wildlife Conservation. The Conservation NGO, founded by Mr. Ricardo Meade was a definite hit with the students with their main attraction being an injured White Hawk -Oreo, who the students found joy in petting.
To end the day’s event, the students were treated to a special viewing of the movie ‘Humpback Whales 3D’- an extraordinary journey into the mysterious world of one of nature’s most awe-inspiring marine mammals. Set in the spectacular waters of Alaska, Hawaii and the remote islands of Tonga, this ocean adventure offers audiences an up-close look at how these whales communicate, sing, feed, play and take care of their young.
During the course of the event, students and teachers both received Digicel branded draw string gear bags as tokens of appreciation.
Entering their 13th series, the Digicel IMAX Lecture Series continues to encourage students nationwide to achieve their full potential while also raising awareness on non- traditional career paths for youth through a mixture of theatre and motivational talks.
