EKS DAY A #PLAYUNIFIED SUCCESS
Thursday, October 1 2015: PORT OF SPAIN, TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO – Two hundred athletes from the Lady Hochoy School South, Goodwill Industries, National Centre for Persons with Disabilities (NCPD) and Servol Special School came out to the 6th Annual Eunice Kennedy Shriver (EKS) Day last Saturday.
Hosted by the Special Olympics of Trinidad and Tobago and supported by the Digicel Foundation, the event celebrates the life of Mrs Shriver, founder of Special Olympics, and is also a call to action for persons around the world to adopt a more inclusive way of life.
The games which were first held 47 years ago in 1968 are now held in over 170 countries worldwide.
Fun activities on Saturday included races like musical hoops, sack race, ball and spoon, fill the bottle relay, pass the ball and ball shuttle.
Creating quite a stir among the participants were visiting NBA Legends Tyrone 'Muggsy' Bogues and Adonal Foyle as well as legendary coach PJ Carlisimo who greeted and supported the athletes throughout the various activities.
The day came to an end with the fire truck pull, an activity which has closed off the event for the past three years.
