NBA Helps to Jumpstart Local Basketball Careers

FRIDAY, AUGUST 28, 2015 – PORT-OF-SPAIN, TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO:  Aspiring basketball athletes will finally have the opportunity to be a part of the NBA (National Basketball Association) experience through the Digicel Jumpstart Clinic. The Clinic will be held in Trinidad from September 23-25 and targets young men between the ages of 12-16.

Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago and Turks and Caicos Islands will all be participating in this initiative and will each select 5 young men to participate in the Jumpstart Academy. Trinidad will also host the Academy from September 26- 28.

Both the Digicel Jumpstart Clinic and the Elite Academy will feature NBA coaches Troy Justice: Senior Director, Basketball Operations International as well as NBA and William Bayno: Assistant Coach, NBA College. National basketball coaches and budding basketballers alike will benefit from expert coaching and advice from the NBA coaches. 

On September 12, the coaches of the National Basketball Federation of Trinidad and Tobago will assist in selecting the 40 boys from Trinidad and Tobago to attend the clinic. The pre selection will take place at the UWI SPEC (University of the West Indies Sport and Physical Education Centre) in St. Augustine.

Following the Academy, 8 young men will be selected by the NBA coaches to travel to New York facilities where they will be exposed to further training from coaches and players.
