WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 16 2015 – PORT-OF-SPAIN, TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO: Budding vocalists turned out in their numbers last Saturday at the Central Regional Indoor Sport Arena, Chaguanas, for the second of five Digicel Rising Stars (DRS) auditions taking place across Trinidad and Tobago.

After the amazing talent that came forward at the auditions in Tobago on September 11, the production team and brand new judge for this season - musician Nigel Rojas, were ready to welcome even more talent in Chaguanas.

They certainly were not disappointed. Rojas had a hard time choosing who to send home saying that “As a coach and as an artist I’m usually very cynical and hard to convince but the talents here today are undeniable. If I see the potential, I’m not gonna turn anyone away.”

Two of the lucky singers who received a call back card were Gavin Rogers and Jeannine Clarke. Diego Martin-born and raised Rogers impressed judge Rojas with an outstanding rendition of John Legend’s ‘Ordinary People’. After his performance he commented, “This is the third time I tried DRS. I come back every year because coming from a singing family, I love singing and I would love to represent Diego Martin.” When asked what he would do with the $250,000 cash prize, should he win, he replied “I would love to give back to my community, to my Church and to all those people who, like me, dream to become singers one day.”

The other contestant, Jeannine Clarke, wowed Rojas with a “pore-raising” performance of Beyonce’s ‘Listen’. The Cascade-born songstress is a veteran at DRS admitting that this was her 10th year auditioning for the popular show. “I’ve reached the live show only once but I never got to the Final. I used to sing mainly gospel, but over the years I have experimented with other genres and now I feel much more comfortable in these too. I guess it paid off.” Unlike the previous years, Clarke decided to attend the auditions on the first day to avoid the long, nerve-wracking lines, which are typical of the Port of Spain auditions.

Digicel Rising Stars will go live at Zen nightclub and will be hosted by the lovely Sophie Wight. The auditions and the live shows will be broadcasted on TV6 every Sunday night at 8:00 pm from September 20.

All interested participants can book the following audition dates on their calendar: this Saturday, September 19 auditions will be held at the Legends Car Park, Agard Rd., Point Fortin, with a team led by former Digicel Rising Star and new 2015 judge Neval Chatelal; as always, the final audition will take place this Sunday, September 20 at Movietowne, Port of Spain, where all three judges – including Nadia Batson - will decide who will proceed to the next phase of the competition. Auditions run from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

For those who are still a bit shy, you can opt to call 2462 from your Digicel handset to audition by phone. Stay tuned!
