DIGICEL FOUNDATION BEGINS ENGAGEMENT FOR PREPARING YOU!
Tuesday, September 15 2015: PORT OF SPAIN, TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO – As the momentum builds for the upcoming Digicel Foundation’s disaster preparedness intervention- ‘Preparing You!’ programme- Safety and Disaster Management Officers from Petrotrin and the Couva, Tabaquite /Talparo Regional Corporation gathered at the Pointe-a-Pierre Special Needs school on September 04.
The Officers along with the School’s teachers and its Principal met to assess the School’s preparedness for a range of natural and man-made disasters. The session was attended by Global Environment Facility (GEF) Small Grant Programme (SGP) National Programme Coordinator Dr. Nesha Beharry Borg and is the first of five Vulnerability Reduction Assessments to be conducted in preparation for the project.
Improved collaboration, sensitization and better traffic management systems were identified as improvement areas and will be incorporated into the main disaster preparedness seminars to be held during the new school term.
‘Preparing You!’ is a Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Evacuation Pilot Project for Persons with Special Needs. The project was launched on July 08 and is being implemented in conjunction with the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management (ODPM). It is co-funded by Australian Aid and the GEF Small Grant Programme implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
