KICKSTART TRIO HEADS TO MANCHESTER CITY FOOTBALL CLUB
WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 11, 2015 – PORT-OF-SPAIN, TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO: Young Trinbagonian footballers; Elijah Shade, Tyrel Emmanuel and John Paul Rochford are among 8 outstanding athletes selected to train with Manchester City Football Club early next year, after participating in the 2015 Digicel Kickstart Academy at Sabina Park, Jamaica last month.
The talented trio made their country proud and impressed the Manchester City Football Club coaches by displaying true dedication, deft sportsmanship and a positive attitude throughout the duration of the academy which ran from October 26th - 30th,. At the end of the extraordinary academy, 8 of the 23 youth players were given a special invitation to attend a football camp at the Manchester City Football Club next year.
Day 1 of the Academy began with a brief meet and greet, followed by clear expectations from the Manchester coaches. The young athletes were presented with welcome packs containing their uniform, water bottle, socks and boot bag. This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity began with a series of intense skills training in individual ball mastery, juggling abilities, saving and shooting.
At the prize giving ceremony, Coach Allan of the Manchester City Football Club commended the boys, he added, “We really tested you and the attitude has been fantastic.” All three boys were interviewed by Digicel Sporsmax, Looptt and Digicel Group on their experience and opinions. When interviewed by Looptt, John Paul Rochford shared, “I learnt a lot of new skills here, like 1 player vs 1 player. My favorite part has been the vibe between all the boys and the friends I’ve made”.
Digicel Kickstart is a football initiative that exposes young aspiring footballers with the special skills training from International Football Clubs. After a challenging and competitive pre-selection the Trinbago youth players were taken to Jamaica to participate in a weeklong Academy with 20 other youth footballers from varying Digicel markets.
And at the end of the program, all the boys received a certificate and a medal for participating.
