Digicel Tonga CEO, Chief Judge at eAgro Workshop

5 December 2018 : The Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA), with matching funding from the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and, in collaboration with the Pacific Islands Private Sector Organisation (PIPSO), is implementing the Project “Leveraging the Development of Local Food Crops and Fisheries Value Chains for Improved Nutrition and Sustainable Food Systems in the Pacific Islands”, with a focus on Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, and Vanuatu.

The goal of the project is to strengthen the capacity of the Pacific Island Governments, Farmer and Private Sector Organizations, and Sub-Regional institutions to develop strategies and programmes, as well as mobilize financing, that can increase poor rural people’s access to nutritious and healthy food.

Information and communication technologies (ICTs) have been identified as one of the most promising opportunities for improving agricultural performance and increasing efficiencies in agribusiness and value chains. As a result a workshop was held on Wednesday, 5th December at the USP Campus here in Tongatapu.

The Workshop is to evaluate the most promising novel and existing ICT4Ag innovations that can spur agriculture and agribusiness/value chain development in the Pacific. Digicel's CEO, Mr. Francis Thomsen was invited as a Chief Judge at the Workshop.
