Digicel and Facey partner to give Genesis Academy students once-in-a-lifetime experience
Kingston, Jamaica – Thursday, June 8, 2017: Twenty of Usain Bolt’s biggest fans from the Genesis Academy in Kingston will get the chance of a lifetime to see him run his final race in Jamaica at the Racers Grand Prix on Saturday, June 10, 2017, thanks to Digicel. In a visit to the school on Thursday, June 8, the group of students were presented with two tickets each, so that they could see Bolt live and in living colour at the highly-anticipated event which will be held at the National Stadium.
“Usain Bolt is an inspiration to everyone and these kids are no different,” said Andrew Brown, Sponsorship Manager at Digicel. “That’s why when we heard that students here at the Genesis Academy were such big fans of our sprint hero and Digicel’s Chief Speed Officer, we knew we had to get them into the stadium to be part of this historic event.”
Brown added, “The special needs community is very dear to us at Digicel, so we always try to create opportunities for them to share in—as much as we would for other customers. We’ll be doing everything we can to ensure that they have an amazing time.”
In addition to the tickets, the school also received a generous donation of snacks and food supplies from Facey Commodity Ltd, through their Serge, Butterkist, Brunswick and Malt-o-Meal brands, as well as autographed shirts from Usain Bolt Apparel.
“These special kids deserve special moments,” said Roger Drinkall, National Sales Manager for Facey Commodity Ltd. “So the team at Facey is happy to be partnering with Digicel to help create a wonderful experience for them.”
Donna Lowe, Principal of the Genesis Academy said, “The children were very excited about the tickets and they’re really looking forward to seeing Usain run on Saturday. We’re thankful to Digicel for creating this opportunity for them—it’s another special memory for them to have as they watch history in the making. We’re also very grateful to Facey Commodity for the food items that they donated as this will help us to provide breakfast and lunches for the children.”
