Kingston, Jamaica—Friday, July 1, 2016: In celebration of Social Media Day 2016, Digicel launched ‘Facebook Flex’, a new service that allows customers to access the popular social media service without credit or a data plan.
A condensed version of the Facebook service, Facebook Flex allows customers to like, share and comment on posts, update their statuses, upload photos and send and receive instant messages, without incurring data charges. To access premium content like photos and videos, however, customers can activate a data plan or browse using Digicel’s PayGo service.
“Digicel is always looking for ways to give our customers accessible and affordable mobile communication solutions. This is one of the ways we expand the reach of Internet connectivity to bring more people online in more places across Jamaica,” said Wenise Davis, General Manager for Consumer Mobile at Digicel Jamaica. “So we’re very excited to be partnering with Facebook to offer Facebook Flex to our customers.”
“We are excited to make Facebook Flex available in Jamaica, extending our partnership with Digicel across the region. Facebook Flex gives people more control over their Facebook experience, connecting them with their friends and family for free,” said Leo Leåo, Growth Manager at Facebook.
Right now, Digicel has over one million data subscribers. Through the Digicel/Facebook partnership, every one of the mobile provider’s customers will be able to use the social networking site for free to get the latest information, find jobs, get help and stay connected with the people they love.
