A food vendor from Junction, St. Elizabeth, Marcia Forbes received the surprise of her life when she was presented with a cheque for $1M by Digicel Jamaica CEO, David Butler inside Coronation Market in downtown Kingston.
Told she was going to be part of a Digicel commercial, Forbes was stunned when Butler accompanied dancers revealed a cheque bearing her name, while confessing that Digicel was not filming an advertisement, but was actually there to surprise her with her winnings.
“I am so surprised! I came to market very early and finished selling so I was on my way home when I got the call that they wanted me in a commercial. So I came back and they had me practicing what to say and I was selling and trying to remember the line,” said Marcia Forbes.
“It turn out that is me they come to surprise. I am so happy, my Christmas really going to be merry.” she added.
The second winner in Digicel’s Merry Millions Christmas promotion, Forbes, who has been a vendor in Coronation Market for over 20 years, hopes to buy a small van so that she and her son can work together instead of riding on the market truck.
“We are delighted for Marcia and, what makes it even better is that she happens to be a member of our downtown family. Her win aligns with the vision of our Chairman, Denis O’Brien, to take Coronation Market to a higher level of commercial activity by empowering all the people who make a living here. What Marcia will do with her winnings is exactly the kind of personal growth and empowerment our chairman has in mind,” expressed David Butler, CEO of Digicel Jamaica.
Launched on November 20, Digicel’s Merry Millions Christmas promotion will see over 42,000 customers winning a share of J$20M in cash and prizes. Each week, one customer will win J$1M in cash plus free data for life, while others will win free credit, data plans, smartphones and other great prizes.
The promotion goes up until December 31, and is open to all new and existing customers, including prepaid and postpaid Digicel customers as well as Digicel Play customers.
