Digicel creates mega experience for customer with social media competition
For Allison Roberts, Sumfest 2015 will be etched in her memory forever.
The lucky 29-year-old got the opportunity of a lifetime to join international superstar Jennifer Hudson on stage at Reggae Sumfest after she submitted a short video of herself singing ‘Spotlight’ as part of Digicel’s social media ‘Mega Sumfest Experience’ competition.
“Everything was just amazing from beginning to end,” shared Roberts. “Being on stage and singing felt so natural like I belonged there. But the fact that I was on stage with Jennifer Hudson was exhilarating! She had so much positive energy; I just felt that this was my moment. It was also really exciting to get that kind of positive feedback from the crowd so that really pumped me up and I enjoyed every single minute of it.”
Roberts added, “I had no idea it would be like this. I remember thinking that the process for Digicel’s social media competition was so simple for you to get such a major opportunity to perform with someone of Jennifer’s calibre. This was real out-of-the-box thinking and a great idea to showcase local talent—and that’s something I must commend Digicel for always doing.”
An insurance underwriter by day, Roberts’ dream is to become a Gospel artiste and songwriter. So for her, this was a very important moment in her life. She noted that, much like Jennifer Hudson, she too started out singing in church and that was a big inspiration for her.
Director of Marketing for Digicel, Peter Lloyd, said, “We are always looking for ways to put our customers at the centre of everything we do, so we are very happy to have given Alicia the opportunity to share the spotlight with an international icon that she herself admires so much. Alicia’s performance on stage with Jennifer was simply amazing. The feedback from patrons at Sumfest as well as from fans on Social Media during her performance was extremely positive and encouraging, and who knows, maybe this experience will spark the start of a new chapter for Alicia.”
