Digicel Jamaica has added the Gibson McCook Relays to its already impressive lineup of track and field meets which they support.
Slated to happen on February 28, the Gibson Relays is one of the most highly-anticipated meets for spectators, athletes and coaches even after 39 years.
Commenting on the partnership, Kamal Powell, Senior Sponsorship and Development Manager, said, “We’ve said it many times that Digicel remains committed to the development of our young athletes. So our partnership with the track and field meets including the Gibson Relays is our effort to maintain the sustainability of track and field by increasing the viability of these meets.”
Digicel will be official sponsors of the Teddy McCook trophy which will be awarded to the top performing school along with a $150,000 cash prize. The top male and female school will each receive $75,000 and the winners of the class 3 boys 4x100m can also expect a prize from Digicel.
Chairman of the organising committee, Professor Rainford Wilks said, “We are happy to welcome Digicel on board the Gibson Relays. We applaud the company’s bold move to partner with several of these meets and their extended partnership with the Gibson Relays is evidence that they are not in for the sponsorship but to help us to play a part in the bigger picture, which is the development of our athletes.”
