Gospel on the Waterfront will kick things off on Holy Thursday where patrons are invited come out and reclaim Kingston for Jesus Christ. A musical message will be delivered by Digicel Brand Ambassador, Jermaine Edwards alongside other popular gospel acts such as Omari, Kevin Downswell and Lubert Levy. Longtime gospel fans will also be in for a treat as stalwarts in the industry Sister Sully and Evangelist Sandra Brooks will be performing as well.
In the meantime on Good Friday the skies will be adorned with colourful kites of all shapes, sizes and innovations at the Melrose Farm Family Fun Day and Kite Festival. The 17-year community festival will be offering up a true Jamaican family experience; making good on the age old Easter tradition of kite flying along with a variety of other attractions for the kids. The event will close off with an exciting concert.
Also high on the list of places to be this weekend is the upcoming Beach J’ouvert, a staple in the carnival season line-up. Paint and soca music will come together to offer an experience of every soca-junkie’s dream as Bunji Garlin and Fay Ann Lyons ignite the stage with fiery performances. And for those patrons not too keen on partying with paint, Digicel will have a wash off station in place as well as the popular Digicel dry deck.
Over in the East, Portland will be the picturesque backdrop for a weekend of A-list parties. Socialites will be putting their most fashionable self forward as they lyme at LeVel on the 19th, Marbana on the 20th and Canboulay breakfast Party on the 21st. LeVel, an all-inclusive, all-white affair will be taking over the Errol Flynn Marina as they party from 8pm to 2am. From there it’s on to Marbana where patrons will not be short of river and beach activities such as rafting while enjoying entertainment steel bands, congo drummers as well as a mix of Jamaica’s and Trinidad’s most coveted DJ’s. Winding things down will be the breakfast party event, Canboulay with scrumptious breakfast delights that will greet patrons as they lounge on the ground of the ethereal Trident Castle.
Back in Kingston, the usually serene Hope Gardens will be filled with shrills and screams of the young and young-at-heart as they enjoy over 15 rides and attractions at Funfest on Easter Monday. With schools out on holiday this true family event should keep the children fully engaged if even for only one day.
Finally, the telecommunications company will come full circle as the weekend of activities culminate in its own backyard in downtown Kingston for the Downtown Kingston Carnival Road March. While ‘chippin down the road’, Digicel will be handing out wave rags, water pouches, waterproof phone cases and vests for the patrons.
