Digicel Barbados CEO, Barry O’Brien, joins as Digicel Jamaica CEO
Tuesday 7th May 2013 - Kingston, Jamaica. Digicel Jamaica CEO, Andy Thorburn, has been promoted to the role of CEO for the Caribbean and Central America reporting to Group CEO, Colm Delves, it was announced today.
It was also announced that Barry O’Brien has been appointed as the new CEO of Digicel Jamaica. Barry will report into Andy and will also have oversight of Digicel Cayman.
Barry joins Digicel Jamaica having been at the helm of Digicel Barbados for the last four years. In this time, he has driven the success of the team taking Digicel Barbados from a pure mobile provider to a full service business solutions provider proudly serving some of the largest companies in Barbados and in the Caribbean. He also had oversight responsibility for Digicel Dominica and for business solutions across the Eastern Caribbean South as well as being CEO of Digicel across the OECS for a period.
A telecoms industry veteran with 20 years of experience, prior to joining Digicel, Barry has worked all over the world with leading companies like Motorola, HP, Vodafone and Ericsson. Barry graduated from University College Cork in Ireland with a first class honours degree in Electrical Engineering. He also holds a postgraduate diploma in Business Management from the National College of Ireland.
In his new role as CEO of the Caribbean and Central America, Andy will have overall responsibility for Digicel’s operations in 25 markets and will continue to be based in Digicel’s regional headquarters in downtown Kingston.
Commenting on his expanded role, Andy Thorburn, said; “Since joining Digicel Jamaica, I have experienced and learned so much. While I am very much looking forward to getting stuck into this new challenge and to working with the teams across the markets to continue delivering our commitments to customers, I’m also delighted that I will still be based in Kingston as I feel very much at home here and have met great people and built good relationships. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff for their amazing support and commitment and of course to welcome Barry to Digicel Jamaica.”

Speaking about his new role, incoming CEO for Digicel Jamaica, Barry O’Brien, said; "After four years leading Digicel Barbados, I am delighted to be joining Digicel Jamaica and looking forward to working with the team to build on the great achievements of the last 12 years.
