It is said that the difference between ordinary and extraordinary is that little extra. So on Friday March 8, 2013, the world celebrated International Women’s Day and Digicel joined in the celebrations to treat some 17 female care givers at the Best Care Children’s Lodge. The ladies were surprised with bouquets and goodie bags in recognition of their commitment and hard work to the children at the Lodge every day.
“To tell you the truth, it was like a nightmare in the office, but in a good way, smiled Margaret Loney, Childcare Manager at the Best Care Lodge .“For all my years involved in this type of work no one has ever thought of honoring people like us working in this field. I mean people always remember the children but many times as caregivers we are forgotten. When Digicel came in to surprise us, it was almost unreal, we really appreciate it because everyone felt good about it, many said for the first time they felt very much important”.
Loney further explained that, “working in this kind of stressful situation, you don’t normally get big pay so what drives you is really commitment and so many times its just mere appreciation that helps. Thanks to Digicel we really felt – special on such a special day for women”.
The telecommunications company also treated two extraordinary women chosen from the company’s Facebook page to some memorable. With one of the largest Facebook fan pages in the Caribbean, the company extended this opportunity to its fans to nominate an extraordinary woman in their life and why. The winners wAva Lindo and Kandi-Lee Crooks-Smith were both visited by the Digicel social media team and surprised with their gift and treats of goody bag with a personalized Women’s Day card, a dinner for two at Spanish Court, an Avon Gift Certificate and a Megamart Vouchers valued at JA$8000 each.
