Digicel Brand Ambassadors join in for motivational ‘celebrity bus talks’
Monday, January 7, 2013: As many students headed out on Monday morning for their first day back at school, hundreds of them who traversed the Half Way Tree Transportation Center and Downtown areas of Kingston were in for a treat as Digicel employees were on location, handing out complimentary hot beverages, paying their bus fares and providing quick and fun motivational talks for the youngsters. Scores of staff members were on hand interacting with more than 300 students during the course of the morning.

To make the morning even more extraordinary, the Digicel team was accompanied by Digicel Brand Ambassador and Gospel Singer Jermaine Edwards and Radio Personality, Miss Kitty who were assigned to 2 special “celebrity buses” to give the students surprise motivational talks themed ‘Dreams are Powered by Education.’ The students were also treated to back to school items such as bags, books and pens courtesy of Digicel.

Commenting on his time with the kids, Digicel Brand Ambassador Jermaine Edwards said, “The vibe this morning was really nice, the topic I discussed with the students was about strategies they could implement for the new year, it was really a great feeling connecting with the youth in that intimate setting. It was also nice to see them agreeing with me as I shared.”

A student who shared the bus ride with Jermaine, Shadane Weir from Alpha Girls School said, “usually I have to wait on the bus to go to school especially on the first day back to school - this special bus ride was unexpected, I am so happy for the school supplies I have received and I was also inspired by what Mr. Edwards had to say.”

Meanwhile on the other all girls celebrity bus, Miss Kitty encouraged them to be ambitious, independent and to pursue their dreams. “It’s such a good feeling to be able to pay your own bills,” she championed to the bright-eyed young ladies.

“Today’s act of kindness was really an extraordinary experience for us on the ground, as we believe our youth are such an inspiration and we just want to help to keep them on the right track," expressed Digicel’s Senior Communications Manager, Shelly-Ann Harris.

Continuing she said: “Working with our Brand Ambassador Jermaine Edwards and Radio Personality Miss Kitty was just a simple yet effective way to partner with other role models in society to inspire our youth and kick start their back to school activities. I can tell you that it was very heartwarming and they were really energised by their extraordinary gesture.”
