Kingston, Jamaica: Monday, December 3, 2012: “Christmas came early here in Westmoreland. It was good that Digicel gave the children gifts, food and an opportunity to enjoy themselves.” This was expressed by Kedean Clarke, Westmoreland resident as she watched her children enjoying the bounce–a-about at the Digicel Christmas treat held at Independence Park in Savanna-La-Mar last Saturday. The treat, which made its debut in Portland on November 24 saw over 800 Westmoreland children and their parents benefitting from gifts, giveaways and variety of entertainment. The biggest hit of the day was Santa and the Santa Village. As Santa made his way through the crowd, scores of children ran to him with enthusiasm and excitement to escort him to the Santa Village where he distributed gifts to them. Along with receiving gifts the children also had an opportunity to take a photo with Santa. Other entertainment included the football juggling competition which Westmoreland resident, Lester Spence dominated. Spence juggled the football 42 times to earn himself the top spot in the adult category. Joining Spence was 11 year old forward of Little London High School, Dwayne Hasely who juggled 23 times to come out on top in the children category. Sharing in the taste of victory were Rosemarie McDonald and Tricia Plummer who jumped their way to victory in the ‘crocus bag’ competition for children.
With Christmas only a few weeks away, Digicel is already planning its third stop in Ocho Rios this Saturday.
“We are happy that Portland and Westmoreland residents have welcomed us in their communities and we are excited to say over 2000 children and their parents have so far been treated to gifts and exciting entertainment. We are looking forward to bringing even more joy as we continue to share smiles with Jamaica”, expressed Tahnida Nunes, Digicel’s Sponsorship Manager.
