Kingston, Jamaica, Friday, November 30, 2012: Shakira Malcolm never imagined that just by topping up with a Digicel $108 credit, that she would be the first millionaire in the Digicel “Share a Smile” Christmas promotion. As a cosmetologist from Portmore, Shakira expressed that this win will help her with achieving her dream of finally becoming an entrepreneur.
“I was very excited when I got the call even though at first I did not believe. So I called my husband and told him and he said that if they ask me for money, it’s a scam”, she laughed. In an official handover at the Digicel head office in New Kingston, an excited Shakira was presented with her cheque for J$1,000,000 for herself plus another cheque of J$500,000 for her to share with friends or loved ones of her choice.
Shakira’s choice was her older sister Opal Brown who is unemployed and currently attending school. This money will greatly assist Opal with her school expenses.
While presenting her sister with a portion of the extra cash, Shakira said, “It wasn’t difficult to choose the person to share this with because you have been an inspiration for me throughout my school career and you have always encouraged me to stay in school and stay focused. So I truly felt that I needed to give back to you today to show my appreciation and say thanks for always being there for me”.
Launched on November 16 in Mandela Park, Digicel’s Share a Smile this Christmas will not only see its customers winning a share of J$15 million in cash and J$27 million in credit, but will also give cash prize winners the extraordinary opportunity to “share a smile” with a loved one.
Digicel has also taken this promotion to the streets with its road shows and Christmas treats that have already made stops in Port Antonio where they were greeted by thousands of happy customers who were thankful for the giveaways and other exciting activities.
New and existing Digicel customers will get the opportunity to win a share of $42 million in cash and prizes when they top up with $108; talk for 10 minutes on a postpaid plan throughout the promotion period or purchase a handset. Customers will also qualify when they activate a new 4G Broadband account or pay their bill in full and on time. In the meantime, another value added element of Digicel’s new Christmas promotion will see customers receiving $1,500 call credit with their purchase of handsets in Digicel stores island wide.
Throughout the coming weeks, 9 more customers will have the opportunity to win J$1,000,000 each and J$500,000 to share with a friend or family member. Digicel continues to encourage customers to top up with as little as $108 to get a chance to enter the promotion and win.
