Kingston, Jamaica, Thursday, October 25, 2012: Digicel is committed to keeping our customer base proactively informed and connected throughout natural hazards and we are heartened that our free storm information text service was accessed over 800,000 times in the last three days, and over 400,000 persons received regular updates on our social media platforms.
Digicel Jamaica is pleased to advise that our network is continuing to perform well despite the impact of Hurricane Sandy's torrential rains and gale force winds. We are however aware of some issues in isolated areas and are working to address them in the shortest possible time. Despite significant JPS power outages (50% of their customers without power), road blocks and other weather-related accessibility challenges on the ground, our technical teams have been deployed and at this time the vast majority of our valued customers are able to access the Digicel network.
Digicel has partnered with our dealer network to provide phone charging stations in locations that have been impacted by the hurricane. We have also established mobile charging stations in order to reach directly into communities and provide this important customer service.
Digicel is committed to assisting Jamaica in its recovery and is proactively engaged with senior Ministers, ODPEM and the National Emergency Council to support their efforts to assist communities in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.
Digicel wishes for all Jamaicans a peaceful and safe recovery.
