Digicel’s $8.99 Concert SeriesMonday, March 12, 2012 - Kingston, Jamaica: Dancehall powerhouse Cham and Certified Diva Tifa ignited Mandeville Park on Saturday March 10 at the Digicel $8.99 Free Concert series. Patrons who, converged on the park from as early as 4pm rocking to the beats of Coppershot’s DJ Sanjay also feasted on superb performances from Protoje, Christopher Martin, Bugle, and Digicel Rising Stars Alum, Tash, Delando and Latty J.
Cham returned to Mandeville after a seven year absence and was well received. The consummate performer dropped hits such as Wine, Fassy, Survival story which had patrons in a frenzy. One female in her mid forties took to the stage and showed that Cham’s music transcends age. Her skillful maneuverings to Cham’s instructions were rewarded with a Digicel phone, credit and a cash prize from Cham.
The hit maker enjoyed the audience’s warm reception to Team Cham. “It was a good vibe, the atmosphere backstage and the audience was good. Digicel went all out with the production,” he said.
Not to be outdone the B-A-D-D-E-S-T Female DJ in Jamaica stormed the staged with a an arsenal of dancehall favourites. Patrons sang and danced to Tifa’s high energy delivery of Matey Wine, Sick in har brain, Spell it out. Her 30 minute performance transformed Mandeville Park into a cauldron of writhing bodies accompanied by a unison delivering each lyric in sync with the artiste.
The wonderful reception from Mandeville was not lost on Digicel officials. Paula Pinnock-MacLeod, Sports Sponsorships Manager was buoyed by Mandeville’s response. “Our One rate Option of only $8.99 to any number, on any local network, at any time has been a great success since the announcement on March 2. In fact, we have been having overwhelming response and feedback from our customers here on the ground in Mandeville. It’s been an amazing concert and we are looking forward to the next event in Montego Bay. Patrons were also vocal about their appreciation of the telecoms provider’s One Rate Plan. LenJ, a patron at the event shared his sentiment while he waited on Tifa’s performance. “It’s a great thing. I activated the $8.99 on my phone from Friday. My credit lasted longer even when I dialed someone from another network,” he noted.
The Digicel concert delivered a wonderful mix of local music much to the delight of the Mandeville based customers. Christopher Martin had the crowd rocking to his smooth tones of Cheater’s Prayer, Paper Loving and others. Protoje also brought his roots rocking reggae to the crowd who sang along to his delivery of Rasta Love, JA, Wrong of the law, and his current hit Who Dem A Programme. Digicel Rising Stars Delando, Tash and Latty J brought a game delivering outstanding performances which received A grades from the audience.
The Digicel $8.99 Free Concert series continues on March 17 in Sam Sharpe Square, Montego Bay. The show will feature Cham, Pop Caan, Bugle, Romaine Virgo, Tash, Latty J and Delando.
