Monday, 22nd of February, 2015 -Suva, Fiji: As recovery efforts are now underway in Fiji, Digicel has made solid progress in restoring its network enabling customers to make and receive calls, text messages and emails. The Digicel network has been restored in Navua, Serua, Korolevu, Sigatoka, Nadi, Lautoka and Nausori, and teams are now focusing on connecting the rest of the Fiji Islands. The network in Suva stayed up throughout the disaster.
Digicel Fiji’s Head of Marketing, Ms. Sheryl Singh, said; “We are deeply saddened by and concerned about the destruction caused by Tropical Cyclone Winston that hit Fiji on Saturday and the devastation it has left behind. We know that at this time communications are of utmost importance as families and loved ones stay connected with those across the islands and abroad – and we are working tirelessly to enable customers to do so.”
“With that, we have completely restored network connectivity in the capital, Suva, and in Navua, Serua, Korolevu, Sigatoka, Nadi, Lautoka and Nausori and are working with the Government and local companies to get technical staff to the outer islands so we can restore communications in as many locations as possible.”
She added,” On behalf of the Digicel Group, I would like to convey our heartfelt condolences to Fijians who are undergoing tragic experiences due to the loss of lives of their family members. I would like to convey our expression of deepest sympathy and solidarity to the grieving families of the victims and all those affected by the calamity.”
