Kingston, Jamaica – Thursday, September 14, 2017: The damage wrought by Hurricane Irma has sparked a fresh wave of giving from corporate Jamaica, as a number of companies quickly joined hands and resources with Digicel to send much-needed relief to some of the islands worst-affected by the storm.


After  securing an 8,000 tonne cargo vessel with the from the Maritime and Transport Services Ltd., Digicel, along with partners Facey Commodity Co. Ltd., Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC) and Wisynco are wasting no time filling it with much-needed items including food, water, first aid, basic hygiene supplies, telecoms equipment and construction materials. The vessel, which departs Jamaica on Friday heading for Anguilla, Turks and Caicos and The British Virgin Islands, is expected to make its first delivery stop by Wednesday, September 20.


Roger Drinkall, Sales Director at Facey Commodities Co. Ltd. shared, “We all want to help our Caribbean neighbours who were affected by Hurricane Irma. So when Digicel reached out to us and told us what they were doing, a number of our partners quickly jumped at the opportunity with a major donation for the islands. Seprod and Facey have provided various food and drink items, while PA Benjamin has contributed critical first aid supplies.”


Likewise, Wisynco’s Director of Marketing, Francois Chalifour said; “Wisynco is more than happy to serve our Caribbean brothers and sisters, just in the same way we often help our Jamaican brothers and sisters. The national disaster that recently occurred with Hurricane Irma will have such a devastating effect for many in the weeks and months to come, to a degree where some islands will never fully recover but we stand ready to assist wherever we can and urge all Jamaicans to support our Caribbean neighbours.”



Wisynco contributed 2,000 cases of water while CIBC gave water purification items and additional first aid and hygiene supplies. Meanwhile, Tankweld Ltd will be covering all port and loading costs to get the vessel sent off as quickly as possible.
