July 2015 – (Bridgetown, Barbados): Digicel Barbados joined the fight against the Sargassum seaweed invading our beaches recently when members of staff of the telecommunications company converged on the Welches Beach in Christ Church on Saturday morning with rakes, shovels and garbage bags in hand for a beach clean-up which lasted over two hours.

Digicel’s Marketing Manager, Krystle Smith, explained that the initiative was a part of the company’s efforts to help eliminate this threat, “The seaweed is a major problem on many of our beaches but is especially aggressive along this stretch, which needs to be cleaned daily as a result. We wanted to do our part in assisting with the clean-up and protecting our beautiful beaches and so we contacted the National Conservation Commission (NCC) and worked along with them on this initiative to ensure that our efforts were focused and in line with theirs.”
