Tell me about roaming with Digicel.

Digicel offers roaming for all our customers, whether you’re a prepaid customer or a postpaid customer when you are travelling outside of your home country. Digicel’s roaming allows you to make and receive calls, send and receive SMS and conduct data activities.

 

How do I Roam as a Prepaid Customer?

As a prepaid customer, please ensure that you top up your account with sufficient credit before you travel. If you attempt to make a call and you do not have sufficient credit, you will hear a ‘low balance’ tone and your call will not be connected. To check your balance while roaming, dial *142#.

 

How do I Roam as a Postpaid Customer?

As a postpaid customer, you will first need to ensure that your account is activated for roaming. If it is not activated, kindly pass by a store to have this activated. Also please make sure that your phone is roaming enabled. Network Selection in your handset and select ‘AUTOMATIC’ before you travel. Once you have reached your destination, switch your phone on and allow it to update and locate Digicel’s partner network in that country. Verify that data is on while roaming.

 

My handset does not pick up the network automatically once I’ve reached my destination. How do I fix that?

For some handset type, you might need to manually select the network. To do this, go to Menu Network Selection, select MANUAL then connect to the network.

 

How do I contact Customer Care while I’m roaming?

To contact Customer Care while you are roaming, please dial +59996900035.

 

How do I access my voicemail while roaming?

To access voicemail, dial +59996900005. Please note that checking your voicemail will incur roaming rates.

 

Will I be able to benefit from local promotions while roaming?

No. You will not be able to benefit from local promotions while roaming.

 

Does Digicel have a roaming plan and how does it work?

As a prepaid or postpaid customer, you can opt in to Digicel’s roaming rate plan for a subscription fee while roaming in the USA, The Netherlands, Colombia, Venezuela and the Caribbean. There are three plans available for you to choose from according to your length of stay and your usage to make/receive calls and to send/receive SMS.

How do I activate the Digicel Roaming Plan?

For the 10day and 30day plan, simply dial *153#, either at home or at your roaming destination to activate the roaming plan. For activation of the ongoing plan, simply contact one of our sales representatives or visit your nearest Digicel dealer store.

 

Is there an opt-in code that I should dial to select the plan they want?

Once you have dialled *153# you will receive a pop-up menu that will allow you to choose your plan type: the below.

 

How do I keep track of my plan to know when it has expired?

You will receive a notification when your Digicel “Roam Like You’re Home” Plan has expired. If the plan is not renewed while you are still roaming, regular roaming rates will be applied.

 

How does Roam Like You're Home work?              

Roam Like You’re Home allows prepaid and postpaid customers to purchase a roaming plan which charges at a rate similar to rates in your home country. You can then access great rates for calls, data and text while roaming in the USA, The Netherlands, Colombia, Venezuela and the Caribbean.

Prepaid customers can purchase the plan which includes free incoming calls, bundled minutes, texts and data for use while roaming in the US, The Netherlands and Digicel Caribbean and Central America markets.

Postpaid customers can purchase the plan which includes free incoming calls, bundled minutes, texts and data for use while roaming in the US, Colombia, Venezuela, The Netherlands and Digicel Caribbean and Central America markets.

*In Colombia and Venezuela the service is only available on the Telefonica Movistar network. Please choose this network for roaming.

Prepaid customers will be able to purchase a 10 day bundle plan, while postpaid customers will only be able to purchase the 30 day and continuous plan.

 

How do I activate Roam Like You’re Home?

You can activate the service using the USSD short code *153#, using the UMM code 123, then press SEND or via the My Digicel app.

My credit limit is barred – what can be done?    

You will need to make a payment to your postpaid account to reduce the balance owing to an amount below your credit limit.

 

I am unable to send SMS. How do i get this rectified?

This can be a result of any of the below resasons: 

  1. The handset being used may have an issue.  In this case, please call Customer Care at 145 or visit one of our dealer stores.
  2. Check the message settings on your handset to ensure MCN is 59996900003.
  3. You might not have sufficient credit to send the SMS.  Each SMS costs USD 0.15 per 160 characters to any number (local & international).
