What is LTE?

LTE is superfast data service that is about 3 times faster than Digicel 4G. LTE means no more buffering or loading, superfast, clear and crisp video streaming, video calling, messaging and browsing.

What can I do with LTE?

LTE will deliver the best mobile data experience by effectively removing buffering. This will allow you to view and access all your favourite content like Netflix, YouTube, SKYPE, Facebook, WhatsApp, Snapchat, Instagram, download and upload files much faster.

Is Digicel LTE also available for voice calls as well?

Although LTE is a data centric network, a customer will retain all existing voice and SMS functionality. LTE will allow for faster use in the transfer of mobile data, but will not impact your voice service or quality in any way. Voice calls will be connected automatically on the 2G and 4G networks.

Does LTE cost more than the other data services?

Digicel LTE service does not cost more than the other data services. You can enjoy our LTE service with our existing plans. Our newest plans also give you certain apps unlimited and rollover data, so you can get even more enjoyment out of the LTE network without needing to pay for more data.

Does LTE use more data?

LTE means that your data will be faster. It does not mean that your plan will be automatically more expensive. However, the new experience is so great that you might want to use your phone more to watch videos for example. On top of that, our newest plans give you certain apps unlimited and rollover data, so you can get more enjoyment out of the new network without needing to pay for more data.

How can I get LTE?

You need an LTE compatible device, compatible SIM card and LTE coverage. If you have all three, then you can automatically have LTE!

Who can activate Digicel LTE?

Both prepaid and postpaid customers with an LTE capable device and SIM card are eligible to use the service. Make sure you have enabled “Mobile Data” or “Cellular Data” on your device.

Is Digicel LTE available for existing and new customer?

Yes, it is. If you have an LTE compatible device and SIM and activated plan, you will be automatically transferred to our superfast LTE network.

Is Digicel LTE available for all data plans?

Yes, it is. Our newest plans also give you certain apps unlimited and rollover data, so you can get even more enjoyment out of the LTE network without needing to pay for more data. If a data plan is not activated, data consumption will be charged at Pay As You Go rates.

How do I know if I already have LTE?

Look at the top corners of your screen. If it says 4G or LTE, then you are already connected!

How do I know if I have LTE signal coverage?

Your device will indicate with a symbol the type of network it is connected to.

  • LTE: LTE super high speed
  • 4G: HSPA+ or LTE super high speed
  • H+: HSPA+ high speed
  • H: HSPA high speed
  • 3G: UMTS moderate speed
  • E: EDGE slow speed
  • G: GPRS slow speed

How do I know if I have a compatible device?

Digicel LTE service operates on the 1800 MHz (also known as band 3). There are two ways to check if your device is compatible with the Digicel LTE network:

1.      Go to https://www.gsmarena.com/ and search for you device type. At “Network” information click on “expand” to see the detailed information. Check in the Network information if you see LTE band 3 or 1800.

2.      Dial *#06# from your device to obtain your IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) number. Then go to http://www.imei.info/ and enter the IMEI number from your device, and  select "Check". If your device is recognized you will receive a free report. Check in the Basic information if you see LTE and 1800

How do I check if my device can access LTE?

You can verify the settings on your handset to confirm whether or not it is LTE capable. Follow the below instructions for the type of device that applies to you:

Android: Settings > Network Connections > Mobile Networks > Network Mode >

  • If it is LTE > LTE/WCDMA/GSM  (auto connect)
  • If not LTE > WCDMA/GSM  (auto connect)

I-Phone: Settings > Cellular > Voice and Data > LTE – 3G – 2G.

Windows: Settings > Mobile Networks > Highest Connection Speed > LTE / 3G

I want to replace my current device with an LTE-capable device. Do I have to change my phone number to be able to use LTE?

There is no need to change phone numbers. You can maintain your existing Digicel phone number. Just visit any Digicel store to select one of our LTE capable smart phones.

How do I check if I have a compatible SIM?

If you have a SIM card that was purchased after 2011, or has a small size (micro size or nano size), then your SIM card is probably compatible with LTE.

If you have an older SIM, and you are not sure if it is LTE ready, you can come by the Digicel store and we can help you figure it out. If you need an LTE SIM, we will give you one free of charge.

I want to replace my SIM card with an LTE-capable SIM card. Do I have to change my phone number to be able to use LTE?

There is no need to change phone numbers. You can maintain your existing Digicel phone number. Just visit any Digicel store to have your SIM card replaced for free!

How do I check if I have a compatible plan?

All our plans are compatible with LTE.

Will I need credit on my account to access 4G LTE Data?

Customers are required to have credit to be able to activate a data plan or access data at Pay As You Go rates.  

How do I check my data bundle balance?

In order to query your Postpaid data plan balance you can use My Digicel App to check you active plan and your Data remaining..

In order to query your Prepaid data plan balance use the best option which is My Digicel App.  Launch the My Digicel App and select balance.

How can I keep track of my data usage?

  • By checking in your Data remaining in My Digicel App.
  • By activating the Data Warning functions on your smart device.
  • Postpaid subscribers get an SMS notification when they reach 80% and 100% of the monthly data quota.
  • Prepaid subscribers with an active data plan get a message notification when the last 150 MB of the quota is available.

What happens if I exhaust the allotted bundle allowance (MB/GB) of the Prepaid package purchased, before the plan time ends?

  • If you exceed your allotted data bundle for the selected plan you will receive a prompt to purchase an additional data bundle by using My Digicel App.
  • Once your data bundle is exhausted, you may choose to re-subscribe to the same plan, upgrade to a new plan or select any of the other available data plans.
  • You may select the Data plan of choice in My Digicel App or you may renew/upgrade your current plan.
  • You are immediately given a new plan with a full bundle allocation and time on the new plan if a plan re-purchase or upgrade is done. The unused bundle allowance will roll over from the old plan to the new plan.

What happens if I reach the allotted data quota (MB/GB) of the Postpaid package?

  • Purchase add-on data 1 GB
  • Pay-as-you go until credit limit is reached
  • Upgrade postpaid plan

What is LTE roaming?

With LTE Roaming, our customers can enjoy faster mobile speeds when traveling abroad. Digicel will be gradually making LTE roaming available in the near future, depending on the country and the data capability of the roaming network.

Am I able to access LTE service while roaming?

Postpaid and Prepaid data roaming are automatically enabled for our customers. Your ability to access LTE data speeds when roaming will be dependent on the data capability of the roaming network.

When buying a phone, what frequency will work on the LTE network?

Our LTE network will work well with any LTE handset which supports 1800 MHz or LTE band 3. Devices that support only GSM and UMTS can connect to the network but will not be able to access LTE speeds.

Do I need to change the APN settings on my device to access LTE?

No. It is not necessary to change the APN settings.

Does Digicel have 100% LTE Coverage?

Digicel has island-wide LTE signal coverage, similar to the Digicel 4G signal coverage.

How do I know if I have LTE signal coverage?

Your device will indicate with a symbol the type of network it is connected to.

What happens to my device signal if I am in an area that is not covered by LTE?

When you move outside the LTE signal coverage, your LTE device will connect to the next highest technology it can find. The device may connect to an H+, H, 3G, 2G, E, or G network. You will still be able to use data and voice services. 

I do not want to use LTE what should I do?

If you do not want to use Digicel LTE services, then you can change your device network settings to connect only to 2G (GSM) and/or 3G (WCDMA) networks.

What should I do if I am unable to access LTE Speeds?

  • Confirm that the network settings on your handset are set to LTE
  • Ensure that your handset is LTE capable with Band 3 (1800MHz)
  • Please visit your nearest Digicel store for further assistance

What rate do I pay if I use my phone as a modem or hotspot with a computer (i.e. Tethering)?

Tethering is charged from the available data bundles allotted to your selected data plan. If a data plan is not activated, data consumption will be charged at Pay As You Go rates.
