PHONE TO PHONE TOP-UP

1. What is Phone to Phone Top-Up?

Phone to Phone Top-Up is a electronic top-up solution being offered to Digicel Jamaica customers. It allows individuals to sell Digicel credit from their phone to other Digicel customer’s phone via a USSD code.

2. How does Phone to Phone Top-Up work?

With Phone to Phone Top-Up, you will be able to add credit to another Digicel customer’s PrePaid account by purchasing credit from a Phone to Phone merchant (vendor). Each vendor will have a Digicel mobile number that is provisioned for the service. This will allow the vendor to add credit to any valid Digicel PrePaid number by sending the short code *150*970*password/client id*7digit number*amt#.

3. What is the access number for Phone to Phone Top-Up?

The USSD short code is 150. This number can only be accessed by an authorized vendor with a phone number that has been registered for Phone to Phone.

4. Can I access the service from any Digicel mobile phone?

Yes. The service can be accessed from any Digicel phone once the number has been registered on the Phone To Phone system.

5. Can I access the service from a landline?

No. There service cannot be accessed from a landline or any other phone from another mobile service provider. The service can only be accessed by a Digicel phone with a Digicel mobile number that has been registered on the Phone to Phone system.

6. Is there a minimum purchase that is required in order to become a Phone to Phone vendor?

Yes. Each vendor is required to purchase a minimum of JMD$1200 in order to become a Phone to Phone vendor.

7. Where can I sign up to sell Credit Using Phone to Phone?

If you are interested in selling credit via Phone to Phone you may contact your local Phone to Phone distributor.

9. How does a Phone to Phone vendor add credit to a Digicel customer’s account?

When purchasing credit , you are required to provide the vendor with the phone number the credit is to be added to and the amount of credit being purchased. Once you provide the vendor with the number to add the credit to and the amount of credit to be added, the vendor then dials the following USSD string:


10. Is there a charge for using this service?

No. There is no additional service charge for purchasing credit via Phone to Phone Top-Up. 

Note: Phone to Phone Top-Up uses variable voucher. Therefore, the amount of credit that the customer receives is the amount given minus the tax. Please see the Variable Voucher FAQ for further details of how variable voucher works.

 

11. What are the voucher denominations that will be available with Phone to Phone Top-Up?

Phone to Phone Top-Up uses Variable Top-Up which does not use voucher denominations. You will be able to top-up with any dollar value amount.

Reminder: The minimum top-up amount allowed is $50. In addition, the vendor is only able to enter whole dollar values. Therefore, the vendor will not be able to send a request for $50.45.

13. How do I know that the recipient has received the credit?

The phone with the MSISDN that was topped up will receive a text message confirming that the credit has been added. The text will include the amount of credit received and the transaction number. 

Note: The vendor will also receive a confirmation text message.

14. If I accidentally provided the vendor with the incorrect mobile number can the transaction be reversed?

No. The transaction cannot be reversed once it has been completed. Once you confirm the number with the vendor, you will not be able to cancel nor reverse the transaction. The vendor will also advise you that credit cannot be transferred once added. Also. Customer Care is not be able to transfer the credit either.

15. What should I do if I purchased Credit Using Phone to Phone Top-up but did not receive the credit?

You may contact Digicel’s Customer Care by dialing 100 from any Digicel phone. Provide the Customer Care representative with the following information:

  • The phone number that should have been topped-up
  • The amount of money that the vendor was paid
  • The transaction number
  • The time and date of the top-up

16. Can Phone to Phone Top-Up be used to add credit to an account that is already barred from adding a card?

Yes. Once a direct top up is done on the account, it will allow for the account to become active again. 

17. Can Phone to Phone Top-Up be used to add credit to a Digicel customer’s phone who is roaming?

Yes. Even though the person is not in Jamaica, anyone within Jamaica can still add credit to the Digicel PrePaid account via Phone to Phone Top-Up.

18. Can Phone to Phone Top-Up be used to add to a Digicel PrePaid number from another territory?

No. Currently, Phone to Phone Top-UP can only be used to add credit to Digicel Jamaica PrePaid accounts.
